From the Pastor

Welcome to the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury.

“Welcome! First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury is a growing, inclusive, welcoming, multigenerational, and Open and Affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ.  We warmly welcome you to join us in the journey of life and faith. We have been a witness to God’s love made known in the Gospel of Jesus Christ since our founding in 1723. No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here with us.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are currently adhering to local and state Social Distancing restrictions for the use of our sanctuary and campus on the Shrewsbury Town Common. However, the church is open, in-person Sunday worship is still held, and  we remain active with several programs in spite of Covid-19 restrictions.

Our website will give you a sense of who we are, but a church is all about the people so we encourage you to begin your exploration of our community by worshipping with us at 9:30 on Sunday mornings in the sanctuary (with a mask and social distancing) or outdoors at 11:00 on the Common. We will offer outdoor worship all year long as a Covid-safer alternative to indoor worship, although we may have to cancel it due to rain, snow, or extreme weather. Even so, on sunny and cold Sunday winter mornings, we will still be outside, so bundle up and join us!

Thank you for visiting our website. We hope that you will find these pages informative as you come to learn more about us.

I wish you grace, mercy, and peace.

Rev. Dr. James Matarazzo, Interim Senior Minister “
