Upcoming Music Concerts
Celebrating Arts and Music at the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury
“Arts on the Green” is a series of artistic displays put forward by First Congregational Church to make possible a richer and broader experience of the performing arts for the town of Shrewsbury and other local communities.
As a historic center of spiritual growth, First Congregational Church supports the important role that the arts play in the development of cultural awareness, appreciation for aesthetics, character development, and the formation of social and spiritual values.
This new and dynamic series not only provides uplifting entertainment and inspiration, it also works to engage people of all ages and backgrounds, exposing audiences not only to traditional and well-established cultural traditions, but also to more contemporary forms of expression. Our hope is that “Arts on the Green” will enable all of us to gain more insight into the social and cultural concerns of our own time through the experience of art.
Join us Sunday, April 22, at 3pm for our next Arts on the Green concert, featuring Worcester’s premier chamber choir, “Diamonds from the Dust”. Founded collaboratively by local Worcester musicians, “Diamonds from the Dust” is a choir of professional singers and educators who believe in music as a path to understanding our relationship to our modern world and to each other. The April 22 program is entitled “Darkness and Light” and features diverse musical selections that play on themes of light and dark, with contemporary Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s Dark Nigh of the Soul/Luminous Night of the Soul as the centerpiece of the concert. Tickets are $20 for General Admission, $10 Students/Seniors, $15 for adult members of any choir, and children under 6 are free.
