Volunteer and Giving Opportunities
There are lots of ways to get involved here at First Church, Shrewsbury. If you’re interested in volunteering your time to server our church and our community, here are a few options:
Ongoing Ways to Volunteer
These volunteer opportunities happen on an ongoing, regular basis and are always available for you to get involved:
Shrewsbury Church Knitting Group / Hands for Hope
This group meets to create tangible expressions of God’s love. Folks may knit or crochet a prayer shawl or baptismal blanket or create a preemie cap or dress for a child in Africa, sew stoles for our confirmands or mittens, scarves and hats for the Outreach ministry Mitten Tree. The group gathers the fourth Monday of the month from 10:30 -11:30 am. If you have questions you can contact the Church office.
Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN)
The Interfaith Hospitality Network is an organization that unites the religious community in an effort to serve and nurture homeless families regardless of income and family structure. Twenty-six congregations, many with assistance from additional congregations, provide meals, shelter and hospitality. Families receive case management, assistance with housing and employment search, accessing support services and advocacy at the IHN day center.
Fundraiser Brunch to Benefit IHN: Sponsored by the Mission and Outreach Committee on Sunday, April 29th at 11:00 am in the chapel. Please join us for a delicious brunch and learn more about the Interfaith Hospitality Network, what it is, how it runs and volunteer opportunities available from a guest speaker on IHN’s Board of Directors. Tickets are $8/adults and $5/children 10 and under. They will be on sale at the Outreach table in Gifford Hall beginning April 8th.
The Mustard Seed Soup Kitchen is open weekdays at 4pm and serves dinner every weekday at 5:45pm. At First Congregational, we have teams that cook and serve the meal every other month, on the first Wednesday of the month.
